Hyaluronic Acid might just be the most popular skincare ingredient in recent history - and it has garnered praise for good reason. Hyaluronic Acid is naturally present in the skin. It is a powerful humectant - which means it attracts and retains water.
You've no doubt noticed the term Sodium Hyaluronate on some of your favourite skincare labels. Sodium Hyaluronate is a salt form of Hyaluronic Acid. It has a much smaller molecular structure, and is generally more chemically stable and easier to work with, when included in topical formulations.
One thing to consider though... There is some research to suggest that when used in higher concentrations, it is possible for Sodium Hyaluronate to actually pull water out of your skin - thus evaporating into the air around you. This process can result in dehydrated skin, which is kind of the opposite of what we want. It is important then, to consider the percentage of Sodium Hyaluronate used in each formula. In the case of Live Botanical - only 1% is used.
When Carolyn first released this product, we were excited. We've struggled to find an affordable version of a Hyaluronic Acid serum for a long time, and we're thrilled to carry this one. The delivery system - it comes in a pump and not a dropper - ensures that the overall integrity of the ingredients are protected, as does the violate glass.
SPECIAL NOTE - This product is vegan. Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the skin of humans and animals exclusively. However, we'll explain how a vegan version of sodium hyaluronate was created in an upcoming blog post, and we'll link to it here.
